Guest Scholars and Fulbright Researchers at the University of Cologne

The Chair for US-American Law at the University of Cologne welcomes guest scholars and Fulbright scholars interested in research and teaching in Germany and Europe.

Fulbright Scholars

The Chair regularly hosts Fulbright scholars and supports applications for Fulbright and other international funding programs.

Guest Scholars

The Chair for US-American Law at the University of Cologne welcomes applications from American and international scholars seeking to pursue research and teaching in Germany and across Europe. We regularly host visiting scholars at all career stages, including early-career researchers, doctoral candidates, and established faculty.

Visiting scholars are integrated into the academic life of the Chair for US-American Law. They are invited to make use of the University’s research infrastructure and to participate in workshops, colloquia, and faculty events. The Chair provides a dynamic environment for sustained scholarly exchange, particularly in the fields of U.S. law, comparative law, transnational regulation, and public law.

We offer visiting scholars a unique opportunity to:

  • engage with leading European scholars and research networks in comparative and international law;
  • develop and deepen comparative projects, particularly involving U.S., German, and EU law;
  • present work-in-progress in a collegial and internationally oriented academic setting;
  • contribute to teaching in English-language courses within our Certificate in United States Law (CUSL) program;
  • interact with a highly motivated and internationally focused student body; and
  • build long-term academic collaborations across Europe.

Located in Cologne—one of Germany’s major academic and cultural centers—the University provides a base for research stays, with proximity to key European institutions in Brussels, Luxembourg, and beyond.

The Chair for US-American Law actively promotes and maintains close relationships with partner universities and institutions worldwide, and we are pleased to support visiting scholars in establishing and expanding their international academic networks.

For administrative and practical matters, we are happy to assist visiting scholars with institutional affiliation, workspace arrangements, and integration into faculty activities.
