US Tort Law
This is an introductory course in the law of torts. Generally speaking, the law of torts - which must be distinguished from criminal law and contract law - is called upon in order to provide compensation or other remedies to those injured by the acts of others. In this course, the student is introduced to the fundamentals of the law of torts by studying various causes of actions and their elements, including the most important intentional torts and negligence. We then examine key areas of tort-law analysis such as privileges (defenses), causation, vicarious liability and strict liability. The course culminates with a final examination to test the students' knowledge on the theory studied in class.
